CD = Cocaine Dior?

The ex-vice president of Dior Japan has been charged with COCAINE SMUGGLING. See article.

I would love to hear comments from our Japanese compatriots what they think how this is going to affect the Dior brand in Japan? Will brand-loving (and highly loyal) Japanese customers switch brands? Who knows, the unwarranted publicity might actually strengthen the Dior brand and increase its popularity in the Japanese market…

One of Dior’s most senior execs in Japan has been getting a whole load of free press for the company thanks to his unsuccesful foray into drug smuggling. The Australian reports that Guillaume Monnier, the vice-president of Dior’s Japanese subsidiary, was arrested last week for attempting to smuggle cocaine through the post. Not a hugely surprising situation in the fashion industry, but the scandal will no doubt have an impact on the purchasing choices of the label-loving Japanese consumers – despite the company’s very speedy move to disassociate themselves from Mr Monnier.
